At Can Ridge, challenging equipment moves are what we love to do and love to talk about. But right now we want to talk about different kinds of moves – in particular, the dance moves (and silent auctions, delicious food and great company) we enjoyed on November 7 at the Rockin’ for Research gala event in support of a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
We were fortunate to be able to sponsor an Emerald Table at the event, donating $5,000 to a cause that means a lot to the company, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Our founder and president, Bernie Cordukes, and his wife Corinne are the parents of Holden, who was diagnosed four years ago, at 18 months old, with T1D, which is also known as juvenile diabetes.
Every day they experience first-hand the challenges that come with being a T1D family – constantly monitoring Holden’s health, regularly administering insulin, and always having safety plans and backup supplies ready.
“It means so much to us to be able to support JDRF and their mission to find a cure for juvenile diabetes,” says Corinne. “They have provided us with so much hope and support of the past four years, through community support networks, training sessions and counselling. It helped us overcome the initial panic and fear, and put on the right track to help Holden lead a safer, better life.”
The Rockin’ for Research gala is a great way for us and many other companies and individuals to give back and help the JDRF find a cure. Can Ridge is no stranger to involvement in the community – we’ve long made it part of our culture and business philosophy to give to charity and be active in the community.
Finding a cure for T1D would make all the difference in the world, not just for Holden, but for all children and their families dealing with the disease. We are proud to support a foundation that is actively searching for a cure.
